Of the few orchestras that have lived through all the vicissitudes of those years, some have made radical adjustments in style to cope with the new demands of a younger generation; others, through failing to recognise these demands, have waned in popular appeal. Still others have suffered inevitable and damaging changes in personnel. Through the entire era, Les Brown alone has continued to move along smoothly in a straight line. His changes in style and personnel never have been minor; his popularity has persisted unflaggingly.
