Excerpt: Toe Proeski (Macedonian: , (help·info)), January 25, 1981 October 16, 2007) was a Macedonian multi-genre singer, songwriter and actor. He was popular across the entire Balkan area and further north, and locally he was considered a top act of the Macedonian music scene. Proeski was known for his strong vocal performances and trademark quote "Ve sakam site" (I Love You All), and was once dubbed "Elvis Presley of the Balkans" by BBC News. He died in a car crash in Croatia on October 16, 2007. Proeski, was born in Prilep, at that time still part of Yugoslavia but now in the Republic of Macedonia, to Dominika and Nikola Proeski from Kruevo, his hometown, where he spent most of his childhood. After his musical talent was discovered at the age of 12, he was chosen to perform at the popular children's song festival Zlatno Slaveje in Skopje. This was his first public music performance; however, his successful career began in 1996 when he participated in the teenage music festival Melfest in Prilep. Following this public exposure, he was awarded for his strong vocal capabilities. This led to his rise to fame when he participated in the music festival Makfest in tip with the song "Pusti Me" ("Let Me Go") in 1997. His fanbase quickly grew and he continued to make use of festivals, such as SkopjeFest and OhridFest, as a platform for promotion and publicity. Proeski collaborated with one of Macedonias acclaimed lyricists and composers, Grigor Koprov, to produce some of the greatest hits of his career such as "Usni na Usni" ("Lips on Lips") and "Sonce vo Tvoite Rusi Kosi" ("The Sun in Your Golden Hair"). Excerpt: The Music School "Toe Proeski" (Macedonian: ) is a state school that is located in Bitola, Macedonia. Home to a population of over 1500 students, it is one of the most popular schools for music in the former Yugoslavia and Balkans. It provides a full education which includes solfege, music theory, and music history. Every year the school produces some of the best musicians in the area such as Tose Proeski, Marijan Stojanovski, Lambe Alabakoski, Karolina Goceva, Dimitar Andonovski and Hristijan Spirovski. This school was founded in 1947 and was located in the Radio Bitola building.There was lots of interest about this school during that time.There were three music degrees in the school:piano,theoretical and strings. The school was then called "Nizo Muzicko Uciliste-Bitola" or "Primary School for Music Education." In the school at that time, Kire Kostov and Slave Dimitrov were students. In 1980 the school name was changed to today's name and the location is near Marshall Tito Street in the centre of the city. The school carries approximately 1800 students, all from South Macedonia. A proportion of the school's enrolment comes from a further field; either to participate in special programs like theory degree, instrument degree or solo singer degree. Each of these degrees have many teachers and examiners at the end of every year.
