So you’ve picked your favorite cd designs and are ready for printing them but where do you print them from? From your browser? From an art package?
Printing from your browser is tricky so we tend to stick to other methods.
All cd covers are correct size at the resolution defined by the templates. 72 dpi and 150 dpi
Preferences
For MD inserts use thin paper (not thick)
For CD Jewel case inserts use photo quality paper or card
For CD labels use suitable label paper available from any local stationary shop. Import our images into their predefined templates. For more information on this refer to your cd label printing software.
N.B Paper sizes can be deceiving. Check you have got true A4 size (297mm x 210mm)
Print covers with Adobe Photoshop
Printing is easiest with a graphics package. Here are the instructions for a well known package – Adobe Photoshop.
Open your cover into Photoshop. Choose File> Page setup: Here make sure that A4 paper has been selected and that the page orientation is Landscape.
If it is a CD cover go to Image>Rotate Canvas> 180 degrees (so as to have excess).
Now you’re ready to print. Select your desired quality and paper in your printer properties and away you go.
Print covers with MS Publisher
(We have used the 2000 edition)
Start with a blank publication. First make sure A4 sized paper is selected from File > Print setup.
Then make the page orientation landscape by going to File> Page Setup.
On the view menu click ‘go to background’. Hold down shift and drag the guides to the top, bottom, left and right edges.
Go to Insert>Picture>From file and browse through until you find the cover you wish to print.
Resize the image (For CD it is 26.5cm across by 11.8 cm high – For minidisc it is 12.5cm high and 7.2cm wide – For tape it is 16.4cm wide and 10cm high). The dimensions are shown in the bottom right hand corner. Click on these to manually put the figures in. (Tools>Options can change the units from inches to cm)
If it is a CD cover > Rotate the cover 180 degrees so it is upside down (we do this so as to get excess on the side of front cover – see CD insertion for details). Rotation tools are on the top tool bar.
Finally, align the upside down cover against the left hand side of the page (Not right up against it – leave a tiny gap) and check it in print preview.
Notes: MD and tape covers can be placed centrally the right way up. Print a black and white draft copy to check it comes out okay. Other versions of publisher may have the same functions but in different places. Use the help file to locate them.
Printing using alternatives
If you do not have the above or prefer using something else then contact us and share your method with other users.
If you have trouble getting the print out to fit on an A4 page then cut the image into its two parts and print them separately. (CD only)
If you find that printing resolutions are causing your prints to be too small then enlarge them to the right dimensions. All dimensions are on the design page.
