How to make CD covers.

February 11th, 2008 admin Posted in CD Cover Info | No Comments »

Packaging your cd mix is a must if you are looking to put a personal touch on your CD. Sure you can get one of those computer programs that will do it for you, but creating your own cd cover and cd insert for a standard jewel case is easy and more customizable. It is nice to have organized and cool looking cd covers.

Here’s how to cut your inserts and tray cards to fit. Once you’re done, spruce them up with your own cd cover artwork.

1. There are two parts you’ll want to make for your jewel case. The cover, or insert, and the back, which is called the tray card.

2. The dimensions of the CD insert are 4.75 inches wide by 4.715 inches high. If you want more space inside the insert, double the width and fold down the center to give you 4 panels to decorate. Now run a ruler along the crease to give it a more crisp, professional fold. Makes sure to put the cover art on the right hand panel so it slides in easier.

3. Next you’ll need to cut a piece of paper 5.9 inches wide by 4.75 inches high to use for the tray card.

4. Using a ruler, fold 1/4-inch-wide strips running the length of the paper on both sides at 90 degree angles to form the spines.

5. Decorate your traycard. If the jewel case is clear you can decorate both sides so your art can be seen behind the CD. Remember to make sure your spine text is oriented from top to bottom on one side and bottom to the top on the other so they read properly.

6. Gently pry the case apart and insert. Then press the case back together. Voila, You have your own custom cd covers!
